Editorial Policy

The rules we hold ourselves to when we publish a recipe or a guide.

Our standard

A recipe on RecipeUp must be three things at once: genuinely Italian in its roots, useful for the stated goal (weight loss, muscle gain, endurance or everyday healthy eating), and reproducible in a normal American kitchen with ingredients from a normal supermarket.

Testing

  • Every recipe is cooked by our team before publication, with quantities weighed on a kitchen scale.
  • Times are the times a home cook needs. If a step is fiddly, we say so.
  • Yields are measured, not guessed: "serves 4" means four plates of the size a person eats, not four garnishes.
  • When readers report a problem, we re-test. Substantive corrections are logged as an "Updated" date on the page.

Nutrition information

Per-serving nutrition is calculated from the weight of each ingredient using USDA FoodData Central and, where a product is branded, the manufacturer's label. Figures are rounded and are estimates: the same recipe cooked with a different brand of ricotta or a larger zucchini will differ. We do not claim laboratory accuracy and we do not give medical advice. See the nutrition disclaimer.

Sources and claims

Statements about health or performance are kept modest and, where they matter, linked to peer-reviewed research or to guidance from bodies such as the USDA, the NIH, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the International Society of Sports Nutrition. We avoid "superfood" language, we do not promise weight-loss outcomes, and we never present a recipe as a treatment.

Use of AI tools

  • Photos: most dish photos are generated with an AI image model and carry a machine-readable AI marking inside the file (IPTC metadata, plus the model provider's SynthID watermark and C2PA manifest on the original). Our AI transparency page lists every one of them.
  • Writing: we use AI tools for research assistance, drafting and copy-editing. Recipes, quantities, testing and the final editorial decisions are made by people.
  • Never: we do not generate images of people, and we do not publish a recipe we have not cooked.

Independence and advertising

No sponsored recipes, no paid placements, no affiliate links at this time. Should advertising appear on the site in the future, it will be clearly distinguishable from editorial content and will never influence what we publish.
